Existing conservation schemes

Properties that are already registered, or participating in, existing conservation schemes may add a marketing edge to a particular buyer. Conservation Covenants have been proven to increase the value of land in appealing to a niche market.

Trust for Nature
   www.tfn.org.au
A non-profit organisation that is helping to conserve privately-owned natural bush.
A Conservation Covenant  permanently protects the land from subdivision, clearing or other threatening activities - even after the property changes hands. This protection continues via a stewardship program, supporting owners efforts to best manage the land.

Land for Wildlife
   www.dse.vic.gov.au
Establishes voluntary non-binding agreements with landholders to manage land for biodiversity conservation.
A voluntary scheme which aims to encourage and assist private landholders to provide habitats for wildlife on their property, even though the property may be managed primarily for other purposes.

Existing conservation works can include :

  • Native vegetation corridors (figure 18)
  • Stabilisation of eroding waterways
  • Weed and pest animal control (figure 19)
  • Exclusion fencing for stock on waterways, wetlands and remnant vegetation
  • Off stream water points

These works will increase the conservation value of the property and add to its marketability.
