Wetlands and Waterways
Water is vital to our everyday lives. Well managed waterways and wetlands are essential to provide improved water quality for all users.
Wetlands provide a living filter system that purifies water and provides habitat for many seasonally migrating birds.
Waterways include rivers, creeks and seasonal watercourses, and provide important refuges and corridors for many of our native animals. The greatest native animal diversity is generally found along waterways, especially where native vegetation has been retained.
Figure 14 - Wetlands are areas of land covered for at least part of the year by water.
